ARTIST STATEMENT
As an art student I have had many different experiences. All my experiences have taught me not only more about the different styles and types of art, but also more about myself and how my art represents that. Before taking art at DHS I had never really enjoyed it or found it as something I enjoyed. The first art class I took at DHS was Digital Photography which got rid of that opinion. After my first edits on my first photo, I knew I had found something that I would really enjoy and have fun with. I started taking more photos for fun and really liked the idea that photos capture memories in an exact moment. Digital Photography opened me up to art and showed me that it can be fun. My next semester I took painting, and to be honest, I wasn't very excited to take it because it was something I had had zero experience with. But after seeing the first landscape I painted, I began to enjoy painting. And as the semester went on and I got to plan my own assignments, art began to become part of my a life and become a fun hobby that I know I will enjoy and use forever.
Throughout looking at all of the art I produce, whether paintings or photos, I notice that they all have one thing in colon, nature. I live in beautiful Durango where there are many outdoor activities and with beautiful views. I love the outdoors and my art work obviously displays that. When working with both painting and photography I like to produce my work on big displays (canvas and photo paper). In photography I always like to keep photos natural looking, and in painting, I like to make semi-realistic looking paintings with a touch of cartoon. This way makes my paintings a bit different than others who paint nature and outdoor activities. My main techniques for painting are always starting with background then adding the farthest looking thing away. I don't go off of an exact plan for how it is going to look, instead I just go with the flow of how the painting would look best. Similar to painting, in photography I don't go off of an exact plan. I add what is needed to the photo to help it look its best.
Without art in life, I know my life would a lot more dull and boring. If art was not in my life I, especially at school, I would not have a class to look forward to during the school day. Art does have purpose in my life, to me it is a way to express myself and get my feelings and ideas out visible. I really like how art combines the real world with your mind and imagination. Your mind has infinite thoughts, which means that art will go on forever. This idea really helps me connect to art because it reminds me that whatever I create is great because it came from my mind. In my future I see art as a way to make things more fun and creative. It will always act as a way to express my self, but I don't myself going to far with it even though art has earned a special place in my heart.

FEO RATIONALE- These three pieces demonstrate my success in FEO #1 because they are all examples of the first pieces I made in the beginning of painting class. With these first pieces, I started to learn the basics of painting and helpful techniques that helped with future paintings during this class. All these pieces demonstrate examples of elements of art and principles of design effectively, and with this practice, I began to understand how painting works.

FEO RATIONALE- These three critiques are excellent examples of my success in FEO #2 because they all demonstrate my best analysis on my paintings and others. I spent a lot of time writing these making sure that all my ideas and analysis were correct. I got 100% on every one of these critiques and I personally improved every time I did another one.

FEO RATIONALE- This entire creative process of my sunset painting is an effective demonstration of my success in FEO #3 because it includes all of the required elments done to my best work. Every part was done with detail and helped me get a solid plan in my head for what I wanted my painting to look like. All of the evidence above shows my original ideas for the painting and how I was going to successfully display them on my painting.

TITLE- PERSONAL EXPRESSION
FEO RATIONALE- These 3 pieces of work effectively demonstrate my success in FEO #4 because they all show/ talk about my passions and hobbies in my life. I really love being outdoors and skiing, playing soccer, etc. and my two paintings above are both examples of those activities. My personal expression talks about how the outdoors has affected my life, helped it, and how my love of the outdoors is shown in my paintings.
EVALUATION
I believe that my digital portfolio was done very well. It goes into good detail to explain my semester in painting this year and effectively shows all the work that I have done this year and the work that I was proud to produce. My digital portfolio shows my growth as a visual artist in painting this year by displaying how I have learned new, effective techniques in paintings. Through starting with my first challenges of mixing accurate colors and learning how to produce nice brush strokes to creating self planned paintings that include all of the techniques. My painting digital portfolio is also effective in showing how I have grown personally to understand my passions in life. At the beginning of painting class I knew that I had a love for activities outdoor, but through being able to express that love through painting, that idea has been emphasized. My digital portfolio does a good job in showing my hard work in this class and the success that had by working hard.
