Assignment 2: Blue
Plan:
For this assignment I am going to focus on the color blue through the blue of lakes and the sky together, kind of reflecting the sky off the lake
My Photos:
For this I went to the lake near my house to capture the blue from the sky and the water. While taking these photos I wanted to have an equal amount of sky and water in it. While shooting photos, I got one with the doc in it and liked how it looked because it made the image not as plain. I created a bit of contrast between the water and made the image a bit more "exciting" than when it was only the water, mountains, and the sky. The ones with the tip of them mountain on the right third line with the doc seem to be the best.
Edits:
I edited these photos mostly in Lightroom to bring out the blue color easier. I first found a filter that made the color blue pop out more. I then went into the color adjustment area and turned the saturation of the yellow in the grass and the green in the trees all the way down so they weren't as bright. I then adjusted the the clarity of the photo to bring out more detail and added darkened edges to give the photo a bit of a blend from the edges to the water and sky. I then copied the filter I had created and applied to all the photos. One photo with the house in the background I opened in photoshop after I was done in Lightroom to use the clone stamp tool to remove the house. This made the photo look like it was deeper in nature with only the rustic doc floating in the water.
Printed Photo:
Here is the photo that I printed, matted, and framed. I printed this photo on metallic paper because it brought a cool shine and reflection to the blue and grays in the photo. One reason why I printed this photo over the other ones was because of its layout and its focal point of the doc. The contrasting white doc in the blue water easily catches peoples attention. Also in this photo the details in the mountains in the background are very visible and create a cool shade of blue that works well with the blue shade of the sky behind it. I printed this photo because the lightness of the blue on the mountains and sky helps to create a very lively feeling, while the darker blue in the lake creates a frigid feeling. This contrast in the color's moods help the viewer understand that one thing could have many different sides and perspectives to it. Nothing is set as a certain thing. I think that this piece is very successful in meeting my plan for finding the color blue in nature because the blue color is very obviously seen and two clear moods are seen and understood in the photo.
