Assignment 5: Red
Plan:
My plan for this shoot is to capture the color red from any fruits or birds that are found in nature.
My Photos:
OI took my photos over Thanksgiving break while I was in Frisco, CO where there was a little bit of snow. In my grandmas backward in Frisco she has a lot of red berries. To take these photos I got really up close to them to capture more its detail and did a few farther away to see how I would like it. I liked the photos that were closer zoomed in. I also found a small pile of berries that had fallen into the snow and took photos of that.
Edits:
I decided to edit these three photos because the stood out to me the most. I really liked how much detail there was in the berries and in the foreground/ background they were in. To edit my photos I imported them into Lightroom. I found a preset filter that helped bring out the colors. I then adjusted the contrast on the photo which helped bring out more detail. I also brightened the whites a little more and darkened the darks to bring out more detail and contrast. I finally added white vignettes to the corners which helped to lighten the photo as well.
Printed Photo:
I printed and matted this photo because the color just pops out at you from the snow it is laying in. You can also see a lot of detail in the red berries and there stems. I also really like how you can see a lot detail in the snow, you can see a lot of ice crystals in the snow. Since the focus is on the berries in the foreground, the snow is background is blurred out and reflects the light off of it. I thought this looked really cool. It gives the viewer two different ways to view snow. The brightness of the berries helps create a very happy and holiday spirit feeling The lightened edges really blend with the snow and help the read color pop more by lightening/whitening the snow even more. I printed this photo on semi-glossy paper so that you could easily see the light reflecting off of the snow and see the popping color and glare that comes from the red berry. The way the berries landed when they fell helps to see the calmness and relaxingness that winter brings. I think that this photo was very successful in capturing the color the red through the way the red is really bright and the focal point of the photo, and through how the red mixed with the snow creates a really festive feeling.
